Denim Fit Guide FAQ

, by Tara Freedman , 5 min reading time

Recently, I asked my TikTok followers a simple question: “What issues do you have when shopping for jeans?”

It seemed like a simple question — but wow, it definitely opened a can of worms!

To help, we gathered the most common questions and complaints we received about buying jeans online. Below, you’ll find those frequently asked questions along links to our detailed size guides.

If you don’t see your specific question answered here, feel free to email us at info@sleekdenim.com and we’ll be happy to respond within 24 hours.

Most common issues my followers had that were mentioned wereas follows:

  1. My problem is that jeans are too tight on the waist. If I buy a size to fit my waist the legs and hips are too big, I have no bottom thin legs and short legs, so buying jeans is a nightmare.
  2. I can’t tell you how much money I have wasted on jeans, it`s terrible.
  3. Jeans that are advertised as mid-rise often are not, rather closer to low rise and not comfortable at all.
  4. Help with jeans that fit both waist and hips, that don’t ride down on wearing throughout the day which is an issue I seem to experience with all jeans.
  5. I’m a typical apple shape with a size 14 waist, short thin legs and a flat bum. So to get the waist comfortable there is too much material on the leg width, length, and bottom. Left with unflattering baggie trousers or too tight waist and better everywhere else.
  6. I struggle with finding jeans that are comfortable/I feel happy wearing/ do anything for me! Please help! What should I be measuring to work out my jeans size?
  7. I can NEVER get the sizing right, it’s so frustrating!
  8. Why do all Petite jeans have a high rise? I’m looking for a mid-rise approx 8.5″?
  9. How do I buy jeans that fit online?
  10. Should I buy a size up or down in jeans?
  11. The boutique recommended in their description to size down one. I did that, and its too tight! It's such a waste of my time!
  12. I am a bit taller than most women at 5'9 and my problem is finding jeans for my flat butt. Are there tall jeans for someone with almost no butt?
  13. Inconsistent & Poor Fit: The biggest issue is that size charts are inaccurate or inconsistent between brands, leading to jeans that are too tight in the knees/thighs but gap at the waist.
  14. Misleading Photos: The product received looked different from the listing images, specifically regarding color, wash, and distressing. How do companies get away with this misleading information?
  15. Fabric/Stretch Discrepancies: Jeans don't have the expected amount of stretch, or they may lose their shape quickly after wearing.
  16. I just can't find jeans that look good on me now that I am in my mid 40's; I either look stupid and childish, or like my mom back in the 80's - neither of which suits my style which is somewhere in the middle...I just want my jeans to compliment my body shape and not have them look ill-fitting or not flattering.
  17. I find one pair of jeans out of 100 that finally fit perfectly. Get so excited, buy more from that brand and they fit terribly. So disappointing.
  18. Most boutiques that I want to buy from are jerks! They have the most ridiculous and overpriced policies such as a 10 day return window, no exchanges if a tag falls off, no refunds only credit, no free shipping, no free exchanges, no free refunds, nothing..and then there are those extra boutiques that actually sell insurance with their jeans! HA! Who do they think they are? It's outrageous!
