My love affair with fashion began long ago, leading me to the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan in 1994. My time at FIT and subsequent years at Nordstrom provided invaluable experience in design, merchandising, and the art of exceptional customer service. I learned firsthand what resonates with people, what makes them feel confident and beautiful, and the importance of delivering quality with integrity.
Life, however, took me on an unexpected path. After facing the challenges of early adulthood and the financial struggles that came with it, I transitioned into the world of finance. While seemingly different, the creative spark within me never faded. The longing for fabrics, textures, and the artistry of fashion remained a constant whisper.
As I approached my 50th year, and after navigating life's twists and turns – raising a child, caring for my beloved dogs, and experiencing the challenges of a divorce – I realized it was time to honor my true passion. It was time to return to fashion.
Armed with my FIT education, 15 years of retail management and merchandising experience, and the invaluable lessons learned at Nordstrom, I embarked on a new adventure. SleekDenim.com was born from a desire to create a boutique that offered more than just clothing; it offered an experience, a sense of confidence, and a touch of personal connection.
This venture was built from the ground up, fueled by passion and perseverance. I poured my heart and soul into every aspect, from website design and e-commerce logistics to marketing and customer relations. For the first four months, I utilized dropshipping to gain momentum, eventually transitioning to purchasing and managing my own inventory. This milestone was a moment of immense pride and relief, allowing me to ensure the highest standards of quality and customer service.
